((ooc: Gonna pop Ila in here, since she would have been exiled with everyone else))
bic: Termites.
Is that what her life had stooped to? Termites. How did this happen to her? Once upon a time, she'd been a favored cubsitter. Now she was an exiled lioness, a so-called "Outlander" who wasn't as favored for looking after cubs as she once was.
She had allowed Shujaa to die. Prince Shujaa. Scar's first born son. No, she thought. I didn't let him die. He let him die.
A dark brown lioness with green eyes sat alone, and as she thought about that lion who'd ruined her life, she dug her claws into the ground. Ever since she'd chased him from the Pridelands, she hadn't re-sheathed her claws. She had let them stay out, like Scar and Zira's. It made her feel more in control of situations. More powerful.
Her name was Ila. She was an outlander. Her name, Swahili for "Birthmark" comes from the dark brown stripe which runs under her left eye. And as she thought about that lion, she snarled.
Of course, that lion was dead. Stone dead. Tojo would forever be out of her fur. What a good feeling.
At least it had been a good feeling. But then they were all exiled. Zira and all the others, including Ila herself. All exiled. Her good feeling had disappeared as soon as she'd come across the termites. This place made her want to kill someone. That wouldn't be to hard seeing that Zira wanted them to train to kill.
Ila snapped at a termite that got too close, crushing it in her jaws. Shaking her pelt, she stood to see where the cubs Kovu and Vitani were. Maybe she could redeem herself as a cub-sitter.

Kovu rose up and padded towards the rabbit and took a small nibble from its ear. At least it was SOMETHING to eat in this desolate wasteland. He took a bigger bite, swallowed and padded off to be by himself. Sure he liked hanging with his siblings from time to time, but right now he just wanted to be by himself for some strange reason. Laying down by a small termite mound he watched closely as the insects crawled in and out of the opening. He smirked and pawed at one catching it in his paws. With a small smile he stared at it for a few moments, then he let it go.

Vitani went back to her earlier game of hunting, the target? Kovu. She crouched low as she crept up behind him and she watched him release a termite, before pouncing, her strong back legs making it easy.

The dark cub let out a yelp in surprise as his sister pounced upon him and started to squirm as she practically pinned him to the ground. "Hey!" he told her with an annoyed look upon his face. "Come on Vitani, let me up!" Kovu continued to squirm out until he'd finally made it out from underneath Vitani. Standing up he shook himself off and turned back towards her, crouched down and flicked his tail back and forth slowly, intending to pounce back upon her as revenge for, well, her pouncing on him. "I'm gonna get you.." he smirked as he began to emit a growl from his throat.
Wait a sec...what was he doing?! This was Vitani he was going against! His emerald eye widened in realization as he got up and ran, looking behind him to see if Vitani was following, the cub ended up tripping on a branch and falling over onto his stomach. "Ow..." he muttered to himself as he laid there on the ground. Kovu laid there for a few moments wondering if he'd done any internal damage to himself due to the fall. It didn't hurt that badly, it just surprised him was all.

Zira was nearly in a deep slumber when all of a sudden she heard Kovu's screams. Unaware that her cubs were just practicing their fighting skills, she jumped up and ran out quickly to see Kovu lying on the ground, apparently hurt. She sped towards him, though the entire time she was looking around and listening carefully for any danger, such as the wretched pridelanders.
Picking up her son and then carefully placing him back down to help him stand, Zira was cooing at the young cub in a shushing manner. "Kovu my baby, what happened?" She put her paw around Kovu to comfort him.
It was amazing to anyone that Zira could be caring, yet in a way she was, but really only with her young cubs, Kovu and Vitani. No one else could ever fathom that she was sometimes gentle and even loving. She was always ill-mannered, vengeful, full of hatred. But not when it came to her children.

Kovu's emerald eyes stared up at his mother as she rushed towards him, practically in a panicked manner at that. Next thing he knew, his mother had her massive paw wrapped around him, like usual, comforting him for just a little fall. "I'm fine Mother.." he replied to her. He hadn't hurt himself at all. Why on earth was she so overprotective of him all the time? It didn't really matter, at least not to him at this very moment anyway. She was just being a mother was all.
Kovu squirmed slightly, trying to pull away slightly from his mother's paw. "Really Mother, I'm OK."

Vitani charged after Kovu, had he really just challenged her? Vitani stopped as Kovu fell, "Kovu! Are you okay?" Vitani questioned. Upon seeing her mother approach the young cub put her ears back, she hadn't meant for Kovu to get hurt but then again he had challenged her after giving it some thought Vitani straightened up looking at Zira. The young cub respected her mother but could hold her own. Her gaze drifted to Kovu again.
The young cub adored her brother and would hate to cause him pain. Kovu was the special one of the group the most protected.Vitani understood why this was he was destined to avenge Scar and improve all their lives for the better.

The young male cub looked over at his sister from behind his mother's paw and nodded. "Yeah I'm OK." he smiled. "It was just a root that I tripped on while running from you. he told her pointing a clawed digit at it, indicating where it was.
He began to grow tired of sitting by his mother and slipped out from under her paw, his tail twitching as he walked. "Come on Vitani, let's go attack the root." he smirked as he trotted over towards it, grabbing one end in his mouth and shaking his head back and forth in an attempt to rip it apart to shreds.

Vitani was pleased Kovu was alright, she would feel forever guilty if she had wounded the young prince.
Her worry soon disappeared at the thought of a game with Kovu, she knew that a simple attacking the root would become a strong-willed battle of tug-o-war. She could not turn down such an enjoyable way to 'train' "Right behind ya Kovu!" she said crouching in her low hunting position and pouncing on the root.
Soon though she grabbed the other side of the root and gave it a hard pull, hoping Kovu wouldn't just let go, that would spoil her fun.

Oh, it was on now! Kovu's eyes narrowed at Vitani as she bit into the other side of the root and began to pull as hard as she could. The cub wasn't going to certainly give up THAT easily. Unsheathing his claws, he dug them into the ground so as not to get pulled by the young female. "EEM ONA INN!" he taunted as he pulled backwards as hard as he possibly could. This was going to be quite difficult considering that Vitani was rather strong. His energy was dropping rather quickly and he had to act fast to win the tug-of-war game, but how? He couldn't possibly let go, he'd never hear the end of it from her if he lost to a girl. Kovu began to thrash his head about, the root unfortunately giving way from his teeth due to it being pulled so much.
SNAP! The tree limb broke in two. Kovu stood there staring down at the piece of bark in his mouth and let out a small laugh. "Guess we both lose huh?"
Translation: I'm gonna win!

Zira took in a deep breath and then let out a long sigh as she watched her children scamper away to fight over a tree root. She quickly realized how thirsty she had become, and wondered how Kovu and Vitani were faring with hardly any water. It hadn't rained here, that she could remember, since they had been banished from the Pridelands. She knew that the cubs couldn't be starving at least, but the only way she knew to get them water was to sneak them into the back of the pridelands, behind pride rock. It was dangerous, and if she took the entire pride it would look like a war, and her son was not ready for war yet. 'Nuka won't be much help,' she thought.
Stretching after her startled slumber, she decided to quickly go look for some water nearby, even a small puddle. She slipped away quickly so that her cubs wouldn't notice she was gone. She scoured the borders of the outlands and found a small puddle of muddy water. It was better than nothing. Her pride would have to learn to live on virtually nothing to survive, which would in time make them much stronger than the pridelanders.
Returning nearly as quick as she had left, she urged her children to follow her. "Kovu, Vitani, come here now. It is not much, but you must follow me for some water. You won't like it, but you will drink it." Zira turned around again, knowing that her cubs would not disobey her, and she started a bit slower towards the forsaken water she had miraculously found.

Kovu's ears pricked up as their mother called them. Water? Around here? In this barren wasteland? He couldn't believe it! Padding after her, the young cub's mouth began to salivate slightly as he walked. It'd been so long since they've even had or even heard of water. "Where is it Mother? Where is the water?" he asked as he trotted behind her. Hopefully it wasn't too far from where they lived, he felt like his legs couldn't take it considering the play fight he and Vitani had just had a few moments ago.

Vitani was still attacking the roots her head shaking back and forth. She was thoroughly enjoying this game but as soon as her mother mentioned water her head snapped up. Water, the word was like a gem to those in the outlands and the substance of even greater value.
Vitani realized how dry her throat was now that she thought of water. "Coming Mother!" the young cub called. She stood up and headed towards her mother and brother in a slight trot. As soon as she caught up she joined her brother in questioning the location of the water, "So where is it mother, this water?"

After a long time out hunting, the lanky teen finally returns with a catch. He follows the scents of his mother and siblings until finding them on their path. Much to their chagrin, though, his catch was a meesly jackrabbit. To him it was a good catch, since he has not really caught anything that big compared to what he carries right now, so all in all, he's proud. Besides, it should be enough food for him, his mother, and two siblings, right? Sadly this was likely not the case.

Zira sighed as her children inquired about the water. She knew they would probably not be happy with what she had found, but she would scold them if necessary. 'We will learn to live with what we have,' she thought, 'until we take over the Pridelands again.'
Coming to a stop without answering her children immediately, she looked at the tiny mud puddle located only a few feet in front of her. She raised up her paw and pointed with her unsheathed claw towards the muddy water that was in no way truly fit to drink. "There is the water. Now drink." Zira herself did not go forward to drink, as there was barely enough for even Kovu and Vitani. Very dark brown, it did not even look like water except for the fact that the land around it was light brown with a cream tint.
She could not stand the fact that her children would have to suffer like this, but she kept thinking that in the long run, they would only grow stronger with their low standards.
