Zola's eyes never left the massive rock that was the heart of this very pride as she approached it. Scar was probably up there right now, though as far as she could tell, it was quiet at Pride Rock this evening. The sunset played off her usually tan coat, turning it shades of golden brown as it dipped below the horizon bit by bit. She was hungry, but she knew that everyone was these days. The herds were gone, and there was little left, especially with the drought. Zola looked down at her paws, finally taking her eyes off of Pride Rock. She was a hundred yards from the rock itself, and all around her, it was dry and dark. She stopped, sitting back on her haunches and stared at the surrounding land. If only she could eat something...
The young adult lioness wondered what her mother would do if she were still alive. It had been maybe a year since her mom died. Zola was surprised anyone had made it this long, especially herself. It wouldn't be long before someone decided change needed to happen. Maybe Scar, or maybe the hyenas he so lovingly watched over. But she knew that whatever happened needed to happen soon. All she could do was wait.
Zola stood again and sniffed the air desperately, hoping she might catch the scent of something, anything, that would quiet the beast in her belly. Was there nothing left alive in Pride Rock besides the hunters?

Shujaa had awoken early that morning and had played away from Pride Rock all the way until sunset. Trotting home he stopped and listened to the sounds around him. Vultures wings flapping on occasion as they glided up above searching for their latest meal, the sounds of the distant wind rustling through the bare branches of the once full acacia trees. Spotting one of the vultures land nearby, the young prince ran towards it and attempted to attack it to bring back to his father. A gnashing beak bit at the cub as he attempted to hold on, only to eventually lose the battle. Limping home with a few small, but sizable, cuts he padded up Pride Rock past the group of lionesses towards the den.

Zola caught the scent of blood and wondered if someone else had found something. She realized that if it hadn't been caught by a hunting party, she probably wouldn't get any, but she followed the scent anyway. A small lion crossed her path, heading to Pride Rock and Zola realized it was him she had smelled. She was sad for a moment, realizing that meant no chance of a meal tonight, but quickly turned her attention to the small, injured cub. He was limping, and she saw blood coming from several cuts. "Oh! Oh, are you alright?" she asked him, jogging to catch up. They were almost to the rock, and she suddenly noticed that this was the prince, and he was probably heading to his parents.
Embarassed, she stopped walking, wondering if she should even interfere. He probably did need to go to his mother, though Zola wasn't sure if she was motherly or not. She'd never met Zira, but she'd heard stories. Many were talking about the king and queen lately.

"Wh..who me?" he asked looking up at the female. "Yeah, nothing's wrong, I'm ok.." he said quickly while rolling in the dust on the rocks trying to cover up his wounds.

The young lion looked at her and said he was fine. Poor thing, Zola thought. She looked on with surprise as he then tried to cover the wounds with dirt and dust. "Oh, no! Don't do that. It's not good to get your wounds dirty. You should clean them up." Zola knew she was starting to sound motherly, but she couldn't help it. And she was worried about the poor little lion.
Zola looked around for Zira or Scar but didn't see them. Maybe she could take the prince to them? But that would be rude wouldn't it? Oh but not if she was helping their son. They'd want that, right?

"What for?" he responded back. "I dont gots any cuts..." Shujaa began to look around just in case his mother or father were around. The reason he had hidden his wounds was because he wanted his father and mother to think that he was tough and could take care of himself.

Comming back from one of her usual walks, Zira's nostrils flared at the scent of blood. However, this wasn't the blood of a prey item, it was of something else.. But then another scent came to her nostrils. A lion? One she wasn't familiarized with. A low growl rose from her chest and up her throat. Quickly, she rushed towards the unfamiliar, but soon caught another scent, this one she WAS familiar with. Shujaa. She saw two bodies in the distance. About thirty yards from them, her keen eyes saw an unfamiliar lion, then another she assumed was her son. Picking up her pace from a trot to a stride, she quickly caught up to the two conversating lions and pushed herself between them. A low growling noise made itself audible as she intensely stared at the unfamiliar lioness.-
Who are you and what are you doing near my homeland?
She asked with a dark and stern voice. Glancing to her son, she saw gashes and cuts in his pelt. Snapping her head back to the lioness, she took a step closer while lowering her head defensively to chest height.-
What did you do to my son? Trying to fight him? You DO Realize he is the PRINCE and son of I, Zira, and Scar, the King, correct?

Zola was ready to just take Shujaa to the caves and try and find one of the royals by the time the queen showed up. She was surprised when the other lioness was suddenly between her and the cub, and jumped back, eyes widened. "Zi...Queen.." Zola heard a growl coming from the queen and then Zira spoke. "Oh, well I'm part of the pride, your majesty..." When the queen looked at Shujaa's cuts, Zola knew she was in for it. Either the queen would think Zola did it, or Zola wasn't smart enough to get help for the prince. "Oh, no, Queen Zira," she said when Zira picked the first choice. "Shujaa here...he looked hurt....I was just out walking, and well, I saw the blood. I'm sorry, I should have gotten him help. But then he started covering them with dirt, and I..." Zola looked at Shujaa, wondering if she'd said too much, and looked back at her queen. "I'm sorry." And she bowed.

The Queen narrowed her eyes as the lioness before her spoke. Raising her head above her shoulders, she stared at her a few silent moments before grinning widely at the female lion's words.-
Yes, you should have. Now, help Shujaa up to Pride Rock and find him some help. I'll go search for Scar so he can take care of this situation.
With a stout nod, Zira licked her son's forehead and ran towards the steps that lead up to the main area of Pride Rock. Quickly making her way inside Pride Rock, she scanned this area before heading out to the edge only to run into him, literally. She pulled back immediately before glancing towards the stairs then back to Scar-
Scar. Quickly, Shujaa's hurt.
Without another word, she dashed back down the steps only to meet Shujaa and the suspicious lioness half way. The concern had leaked out and was visible in her expression.-
Shujaa, this way. What happened?

Bright green eyes locked with his mother's scarlet ones as Shujaa peered up at his mother. "Nothing happened." he replied simply as he sat down.

She grumbles and licks her son's forehead again. Growing more concerned, she sat down next to her son, though she did so to block the female lioness from Shujaa. Glaring over at said female, she snorts and turns her attention to her son once more.-
Yes there is. Now what happened.

Trying his best to squirm away from his mother Shujaa protested. "Nothing happened!" he snapped.

She scowled at her son before snapping back at him.-
Something did happen and if you don't tell me this second, you're going to be stripped of your privledges. No going out on anymore walks or runs.
She stoutly nodded before lashing her tail and looking towards the end of Pride Rock.-

The cub stopped and pouted. "It was birds.." he said turning his head away.
