Royal Duties

Once again, the lioness was on her daily walks. Though this time, she decided to take a different route. She was always aware of the Elephant graveyard that was just barely visible from Pride Rock. So, making her way down there, she caught the scent of her two sons and a few hyenas.-

"Hm.. I wonder what they're up to.."

Silently making her way through the tall grass, she followed the scents until she came to an open space, only to see three hyenas and her two sons, Shujaa and Nuka. Her coat helped conceal her within the tall grass as the young ones conversated with the three hyenas.-

"Put me down!," the small, striped cub screamed at the top of her lungs. The lioness who was carrying her by the scruff of her neck rolled her eyes.
"No, Kayani," she said. "Scar told me to keep an eye on his cubs."
"I'm not his cub!" she yelled.
"I know," the lioness answered. "But you are trouble. And I'll be babysitting Shujaa, anyways."
"Oohh..." Kayani said and instantly stopped struggling. The lioness's lips curved into a smile and she carried the young cub across the savanna. She had been told that Banzai would be watching them, and she was to releive him of his position. Or just be there to make sure that the hyena didn't get into anymore trouble that the cubs did.
The lioness's name was Ila, which in Swahili means "Birthmark". A brown lioness, with a tan underbelly and toetips, Ila had received this name at birth because of the dark brown stripe that ran under her left eye. On her right shoulder, two scars criss-crossed, a reminder of the evil lions who had sent her away from her birth pride, but had brought her here. She loved the pridelands, and Scar. Here she had finally been accepted, and had received the job as Cubsitter. Though she loved cubs, she did hope that one day she'd be able to rise above the rank and maybe get a higher one. But for now, this was fine.
She started the descent into the elephant graveyard. She thought the place was a little creepy, but it might be a good place to keep the cubs. As she reached the botton of the bowl-shaped valley filled with bones, she saw Shujaa, Nuka, and Banzai. Ila placed Kayani gently on the ground, who immediatly ran to the two cubs in the center. Ila approached Banzai.
"Okay, Banzai," she said with a half-grin. "I can take it from here. Unless you want t stick around."
She glanced over at Shujaa, her eyes worried. She had heard of the prince's health. She'd have to keep a close eye on him. Hopefully, nothing would happen. She hoped.

Shujaa continued to pad deeper into the graveyard poking his head into a small elephant skull. "Cool!" he said making it echo slightly. "HELLLLOOOOO?" he called out while giggling. Climbing, he made his way upwards and was just about to pull himself up into the eye socket before looking back to see if anybody was following him.

Quietly, she slide around the group and followed her son. With her lean frame and crouching, she hid behind the large bones that were scattered across the large area. Keeping close, she waited for the right moment and purposely knocked a bone out of place, causing it to make a noise. Just as soon as she did that, she darted into the large elephant skull and climbed her way up to the eye socket. Ducking just below where her son was, she waited for him to pause before jerking her head up and making a large BOO! sound.-

Shujaa lands with a thud onto the ground and looks around glaring. "Who did tha-Oh Mom...its you..." he said catching his breath.

She snickers and slinks out of the large hole and down the cheek bone, then down the tusk to her son with a large grin on her lips.-

"Heh heh. Why are you all the way out here by yourself?"

She acted as though she didn't know of the group that was a few yards from them.-

Inside the elephant skull hid the crazy hyena known as Ed.

Startled by Zira's "Boo!" Ed ran away in panic. Running in erratic directions with his pink tongue hanging from his mouth and his amber eyes looking at opposite directions, he ended up tripping over Nuka and falling sitting onto a geyser.

Promptly, the geyser erupted and sent the hyena flying into the air... he would land right on top of Ilia's head, if my calculations are right.

Nuka topples over from the frantic hyena's collision with him. "Hey! Watch it!" He shouts as he gets himself upright again.

All this while, Shenzi sat on the top of a particularly small, cracked elephant skull. No guilt followed her at the moment; it was a good day. She lazily watched the two--now three--cubs tumble about in and out of the boneyard. Banzai and Ed seemed to be doing an excellent job of watching the cubs, and since Zira had appeared, there really seemed to be no use to, say, paying any real attention to the cubs.

At Ed's laugh, though, Shenzi perked up. At the foot of the skull, a stream of familiar green gas swirled up and into the air, accompanied by a half-laugh, half-scream. Her eyes tracked her friend as he went sailing through the air, only to land on part of Nuka and part of Ilia.

As the noises and cries continued, Shenzi easily slid down the elephant's skull. As the tusks twisted up, she poised herself for the perfect angle. Just as Ed was beginning to get up, the hyena landed right between Shujaa and Zira.

"Oh, they're not by themselves, Mrs. Scar." Shenzi said easily, glancing around for Banzai and Ed. "This place is like home to us, you know." She laughed, pawing a paw into the air.

She leaned down to Shujaa, quickly whispering something into his ear that sounded suspiciously like, "Watch this."

"Hey, Mrs. Scar! What's that at your feet?" She said, knowing that the lioness would take a few steps back to get a better look. What Zira didn't know was that these areas were filled with geysers, and one happened to be ready to erupt right behind her.

Shujaa leapt back as Ed landed between him and his mother before walking around Zira and wandering off again. While by himself he had a small coughing fit which was cleared up quickly. Noticing a green glow nearby he walked over to get a closer look. Upon a closer investigation, there were bubbles that boiled up inside this...this thing. Peering deep inside he reached out to touch one of the bubbles to try and pop it not knowing it was dangerous.

Though she was looking at Shujaa, the moment the strange noise was heard, she gazed into the sky to see a flying hyena. She chuckled at this until it landed on her other son and the female lioness. Ignoring this, she looked towards the hyena as she spoke. Pointing her muzzle down she began to back up a bit to see what it was the hyena was pointing to. Without knowing the terrain, she backed into a slightly inclined surface and her entire hind quarters fell into the crator. She tried to get up, but just as she did, the small hole erupted and sent her into the air.-

"GAH!"

She screamed as her body was shot into the air by the strong force that erupted from the ground beneath her. Seeing the ground get closer, she stupidly tried to fly, somewhat by flailing her legs in the air. Within a few seconds she landed onto the ground with a hard and loud thud. She screeched slightly as she came in contact with the ground. The wind was knocked out of her, so she laid on the ground for a moment. Two things she checked for, make sure she was still alive and that there were no injuries done to her body. Finally, she caught her breath. Recapping the events that just happened, she instantly glared at the hyena that caused her to faulter back. That hyena was dead. Slowly, she got to her paws and stood for a moment, making sure quickly that nothing was broken.-

"HYENA! HOW DARE YOU SEND ME INTO A CRATOR!"

She had slowly began to advance towards the hyena by this point. Her anger had risen to new levels and she was ready to wipe this hyena from the face of the earth. -

Although confused at first, Banzai could already see where this was going. No! Shenzi! What are you doing! Zira is no good to play with -- she has no sense of humor! the hyena tried to call his friend's attention by waving both forepaws into the air, but she didn't see him. And it was too late. Banzai and Ed clung to eachother in terror as they watched the Queen fly through the air.

Once she landed, they both saw that glint in her eye... Shenzi was dead! exchanging terrified looks, the two put on their most diplomatic grins ever and quickly ran to stop the tragedy...

But just then a voice came from the skull behind them.

"Don't worry oh Queen! I have her dead..." That said and Vangr's dark form emerged in a mighty leap; he crashed against Shenzi and they both went rolling down a spinal chord, disappearing through a sheet of dry hide that tore apart under their weight.

Vangr ended upside down with his back against a wall. His head hasn't stopped spinning even though the rest of him had, but nonetheless the hyena was laughing out loud.

"Cut your hair and change your name, my friend! That was awesome!" Vangr praised her, confident of that Zira couldn't hear him here. He never thought he'd live to see someone play a prank on Zira and live to tell... Shenzi was without doubt the best hyena he had ever known.

Ila looked up to see Ed fly through the air towards her. She deftly stepped sideways and watched him land hard on the ground, then skitter away to cling to the hyena Banzai. She smirked, and began walking to see the cubs, but a cry made her look up. Zira was flying through the air. Ila's ears flattened against her skull. Shenzi was in for it.
Zira began stalking towards the hyena, but was only saved by the hyena who Ila knew was Vangr. But she knew that Zira's wrath would still be great. Ila knew she had to step in and try to calm her queen.
"Queen Zira," she said, running to Zira's side. "Don't hurt the hyena. She was... it was an accident. Please, Queen Zira, show mercy on her."
Ila, unlile the Pridelander lionesses that she looked down upon, had no argument with the hyenas. She saw no problem with them, and therefore was not against defending this one female.

Ooc: Hmm maybe I can squeeze Adisa in here.

Bic: "She really got burned on that one." She said to herself and couldn't help but laugh. It was there thing, it was a signature piece of the hyena, without their laughter no one would be frightened by them. The other hyena had been watching from another rib cage of an elephant that had fallen to its doom long ago.

Adisa was quiet the talker, yet she always kept to her self, obeying orders and not daring to think of getting near the leaders. For punishment would probably be severe. She was a brown and black hyena, the average one it seemed. She had some fighting skills and knew how to hunt small creatures. Though the other hyenas seemed like they were having fun, could she join in on it? She wondered if she could. The only thing holding her back was Zira and Shenzi.

"Just a little farther..." Shujaa said to himself while leaning over the crater's edge reaching for the bubbles. Every minute the geyser was creating more and more bubbles causing the cub to want to reach further in.
