Coming to the watering hole was always a great time for her from what she remembered as her young cub days. Nala sighed looking at what few animals were left, a few elephants and a few birds-perhaps birds of prey resting on what was left of a tree nearby. The great waters had shrunk over the time that Scar had reigned as king and this place became depressing. Yet, for years, Priderock would use this place to come and bring news to other lions, socialize, or just to get a drink on their travels. Now it seemed to symbolize death and depression.
"When will this all end?" She murmured softly to herself as she came to the water's edge. Most of her fur had become muddy from what the water left behind. Now ruining her coat, she'd have to spend perhaps a day relaxing to try and clean the mud off. But what she really came for was a drink of what was left of it. Taking a few licks, she watched as the ripples drove off into the water.
Though she'd have to at least find one thing that satisfied her through these dark times. The water still tasted like it had when she was a young cub, now a teenager and ready to enter adult hood. Though too young to leave the pride. That day would come if she had to suffer another year from Scar's rule.

Ayuko lay on his back in the tall grass just off the shore of the watering hole. His murky brown eyes were squinted shut, and his chest rose and fell in a continuous rhythm. Everything was quiet, everything was peaceful. It was strange, really. He hadn't been very active lately-- the Pridelanders had stopped their hunting parties- at least, to this specific area.
There were more hyenas running about, also. Surely the lions hadn't just handed over part of their territory to those mange-filled canines? One of his rounded ears flickered at a soft, nearby voice, and he slowly opened his eyes. When will this all end? the voice muttered.
It sounded rather...feminine. Almost immediately, Ayuko rolled back onto his paws, peeking his broad golden head over the dry, brittle, savannah grass. Sure enough, a lioness was at the waters edge. He blinked, trying to make out if he had seen her before. From a hunting party, maybe? No, she looked too young... Around his age, perhaps.
He was silent a moment, before a smirk flickered across his face, though, it quickly dissappeared when he noticed the elephants nearby. ...Elephants. Ayuko shuddered inwardly, watching their gigantic, flat feet with great disdain. He'd been planning on pouncing out to scare this stranger, but... With those elephants, what if he startled them too? What if they trampled over him? Ugh...Cursed elephants... Ruining my fun... he pouted as he slowly stepped out of the brittle grass.
"Well hello there," the male purred silkily as he plopped onto his rear, eyes studying this new stranger. "Don't you think it's a little... Risky, for someone like you to be wandering around alone out here?"

Nala scoffed as she looked away from the watering hole. She had heard everything. Risky coming alone? Tell that to the hyena which dropped a chameleon on her head the day before. It still ran through her memeries and she hadn't forgotten it to easily. "ME alone out here?" She repeated as if the anger from the previous day had come through her voice once more. Though she realised that she shouldn't vent it out on this stranger just yet. Perhaps she could find that hyena to pick a toe with.
"I come to this place all the time. In fact, it's almost tradition." She said flicking her tail as she came to walk over to the lion that entered her-Scar's lands. "And perhaps I should ask you the same question. Why are you here in the Pridelands? Scar won't be so happy." She warned him, though the anger faded from her voice. Perhaps she could taunt him with their leader now it always worked with the hyenas. But they seemed to know him best.

An amused look crawled across Ayuko's face when he caught the tone of her voice. A fiesty one, those were always fun. "No, sorry, I was talking to that bird of prey waaaay over yonder~" he mocked sarcastically, gesturing with one of his large paws to the bird of prey perched upon a nearby bare tree, it's hungry eyes searching for a small creature of sorts.
He didn't move when she approached him, simply flicked his tail and grinned at her. "Oh?" he chided. "Funny, I haven't seen you around this area before if it's such a 'tradition'. Perhaps I've been picking the wrong times to hang around the watering hole." he commented, smirking snidely at her next comment.
"Same reason you're here in the pridelands," he responded, eyeing her with his murky brown gaze. "Living. Drinking from the only watering hole we have for miles around."
Ayuko hesitated when she mentioned Scar, then burst into light laughter. "I'm not afraid of Scar," he puffed, rolling his eyes. "I've been in the outskirts of the Pridelands for ages, and ain't no one ever had a problem with it. Least, not that they've told me." he smirked lightly, recalling the many hunting parties he'd broken up in the past.

"That's because our leader only lets the hyenas do the hunting. We're hardly out of site. But I know of times when he's not there watching our backs so I make a move or an excuse to get out." Nala explained watching Ayuko before she rested near her. Though she was in a position where she could get up in an attack manuver if it got into such of a level.
"Well you better get used to it. He's the king around here. Much to my dislike." She added rolling her eyes as she watched him. Still unamused by most of the ones that she had come to encounter. Nala had noticed his hestiation wondering if there was fear or a terrible memory that he once had with him surpressed deep in side his mind. Though that was none of her buisness at the time.
