A soft sigh was the only indication to anyone watching that the lioness was in fact awake as she lay by the lake's edge. For whatever reason she'd been unable to sleep that night, thus the lake was chosen as her peaceful place of solitude away from her pride and her Love. She wasn't sure how long it had been since she and the other lionesses left the Pridelands to find help and discovered that Simba was alive, but that day had been a turning point in her life. Her best friend was back, but more importantly now that both were mature, the existence romantic feelings both held for each other couldn't be denied. But Simba was no longer the young cub who 'couldn't wait to be King'. Mufasa's death and then the time he spent growing up away from the Pridelands changed him.
Maybe that's why I can't sleep.
The thoughts brought yet another sigh. He was destined for so much more than he was choosing to settle for. Why couldn't he see that? And as someone that cared about him as much as she did, was she supposed to support his decision as much as she disagreed with it? The lioness shook her head before glancing into the water at her reflection. Whatever she did needed to remain true to her character, even if it upset him. The simple truth was...
"We need to go back."

Simba continued on his journey towards home, his paws pounding the earth as he ran. "I can't believe I've let everybody down...I just...hope I can make it up to them." he thought as he continued running. Though the prince was getting quite tired and he decided to stop and rest under a shady tree. How long had it been since he'd left the jungle? An hour? A day ago? He didn't know. All he DID know was that he had to keep pressing himself forward and right the wrongs his Uncle Scar had done.

Getting to her feet, Nala was ready to try talking to Simba once more. Perhaps he'd have a change of heart? It was worth a try at the very least, wasn't it? For whatever reason however, the lioness remained steadfast. Another glance at her reflection was all it took for that familiar determined look to fill her eyes and once it did she took off running, heading away from the Jungle and back towards the Pridelands.
She didn't want to force Simba to return home, but also couldn't continue to sit idly by knowing that every second of every day Scar remained in power, another part of her home died. Her solution? I'll confront him. Let him know that Simba's alive and that he was the true King. If he wanted proof, she'd hopefully think of something by then.
Regardless, Nala was headed home.

Tojo crested a hill and looked down at the dusty, dry ground far below. He lifted his muzzle to the sky, then glanced back down, his tail lashing back and forth. Just as he suspected, far below he could see Simba running across the barren desert land. Tojo's claws unsheathed, digging themselves into the sand. "Not this time," he snarled. "You took away my love, but I'm not going to let you take away my dream. You will never be king." The said the words to himself, of course. And he didn't have much time to watch the lion running far below. He had to get back before Simba. Had to take his place at Priderock. Simba had been away far too long. He wasn't fit to be king. The only one who could be king was HIM. Turning, he ran back down the hill and across the desert, intent on reaching Priderock in time. In the distance, a storm gathered. A tempest was about to take place over the Pridelands. One that would change lives forever. Or destroy them.
