Being that it was the middle of the night, no one saw the young lioness slip out to the watering hole. While most of the lions and lionesses, and hyenas at Pride Rock were asleep, Zola had been struck by insomnia, and had little to do but go for a walk. There were always one or two hyenas or lions keeping watch, or a group or rebellious cubs out for a practice hunt at night, but on this night, Zola saw no one else on her way. She had been out for a while by the time she reached the watering hole. She looked on at the near barren hole and sighed, thinking of all that had been lost these past few years.
The moon shone high in the sky and Zola stared upwards at the stars, the kings of the past. She wished for rain, for change, for love... It seemed none of theses things would happen, but she had to be hopeful. In fact, Zola had the oddest feeling that things were about to change dramatically. She didn't know in what way, but she felt it; and she had a feeling the rest of the pride did as well. Did King Scar feel it too, the change? Was he worried?
A bird cawed in the distance and caused Zola to jump, her thoughts scattering. She looked around quickly, wondering if someone else was out here with her, and then laid down in the grass, suddenly feeling a bit tired. Now, with so many things on her mind, she didn't really want to sleep. She only wanted company, someone to talk to. Yet, they were all asleep, as far as she knew.

After a long, hot day of near fruitless hunting, Sarafina was tired, troubled, and dehydrated. Her thirst was keeping her awake, so after hours of attempting to sleep, she decided that she may as well get up and trek to the watering hole. At least it was dark and cool now.
As she left the caves and her slumbering pride, she noticed a trail of paw-prints in the dusty earth, and they were recent. 'Who would be out at this hour?' she wondered. Intrigued, she decided to follow them seeing as they were in the direction of the watering hole anyways. Getting closer, Sarafina picked up the scent of a fellow lioness. She spotted her jump after a bird broke the silence of the night; it was Zola, the quiet, now orphaned young lioness. She'd kept a loose eye on her ever since her mother died, but had never really reached out to her. Seizing the opportunity, she approached Zola who, it would seem, was feeling troubled and thirsty too.
"It's a nice night for a stroll, don't you think?" she said approaching the lioness from the side so as not to startle her, as she appeared to be lost in thought.

Zola was still rattled by the bird's call, but the long grass around her comforted her some and so she sank into it a bit more, wondering if anyone could still see her. Her ears pricked at the sound of someone coming near, and she sat up, only realizing after she saw Sarafina that if it had been an enemy, she probably should have tried to stay hidden.
"It's a nice night for a stroll, don't you think?" the older female said as she got closer. "It is," Zola replied with a small smile. The young lioness looked up at the stars and the moon, "The stars are shining bright tonight..." Maybe they feel it too, the change. Zola looked over at Sarafina. "What brings out tonight?"

"What brings you out tonight?" Zola asked Sarafina.
"I'm thirsty," she said sarcastically with a smile. She dipped her head to the water to drink, but before she did, she noticed the stars shining bright in the muddled reflection. "Hm, the stars are bright tonight," she mumbled as she took a drink of water. Raising her head up, she added, "perhaps King Mufasa is going to bring us some good fortune soon," and went to sit next to Zola. "And what are you doing out here in the middle of the night? Thirsty too?" she asked gently.

Zola was happy to have some company, and smiled some at Sarafina's sarcasm. When the older lioness moved to her side, Zola looked up and nodded. It was all she could do but hope that Mufasa was up there, watching them. Maybe he would give them a little luck. After all, what other former king would want to help them more but him? Sarafina turned to her and asked why she was out. "Couldn't sleep," Zola replied with a shy grin. Nothing but the truth. Zola had too much on her mind tonight, it seemed. "With so much going on, I guess my mind feels like sleep is a waste of time."
Zola stretched, feeling a little weary at the thought. It's not that she wasn't tired, because that she definitely was. It was just that her body wouldn't let her rest. However, the young lioness was determined to see the bright side of everything, and tonight's silver lining was that she got to spend some time with a lioness she thought very wise, and role-model worthy.

(ooc: I'm assuming here that Zola's like...the equivalent of a college graduate in terms of age. Maybe 2 or 3 lion years younger than Sarafina. Plz correct me if I'm wrong ^^")
Sarafina could tell that Zola was troubled. Her body language told her she was tired, but she could see in the lioness's eyes that her mind really was keeping her from rest. She felt a twinge of sadness. It didn't seem fair that this young lioness should have to face such harsh realities at this time in her life when she should be concerned with finding a mate, starting her life...
"Times are very complicated right now. I think everyone is so restless, its a wonder anyone gets any sleep around here," she said with a light chuckle. "You know what helps quiet my mind? I close my eyes and imagine life before the tragedy. Back when my Nala was just a sweet cub. Life was simple and wonderful then. Remembering those times comforts me and gives me hope that maybe someday things will change.
You remember the days of Mufasa's reign don't you? Before all of these hyenas and fighting, anger and resentment..." she asked, feeling very nostalgic.
